National Healthcare Supply Chain Week (SC Week) is October 2-8, and the theme is: Supply Chain: Leading Change. Advancing Healthcare. In today’s rapidly shifting healthcare landscape, hospitals and health systems are increasingly challenged to reduce costs and improve patient outcomes without sacrificing the quality of care. Supply chain professionals play a pivotal role in leading their organizations to meet these demands and continue to thrive amid changes.

American Pharmacists Month

October is American Pharmacists Month!

“Know your pharmacist, know your medicine.”

This month we encourage you to get to know your own pharmacist, and encourage your patients to do the same. Stay tuned throughout October for our informational emails as well as fun contests.

Also, October 18th is National Pharmacy Technician Day!

This week we challenge you to make your own Emergency Medical ID card for  your wallet, which should include your personal information, emergency contacts, health conditions, allergies, and medications.  If you already have a medical ID card, update yours or make one for your spouse or children for this challenge.

  • If you would like to use a free website to help you make a card, please use THIS LINK.
  • If you would like to make your own card to save and update, a word document with a template is included as an attachment to this email.

Every person who makes an Emergency Medical ID card should send an email to our resident pharmacist Tina Larsen at clarsen@welia.org so that you can be entered into a drawing for some fun prizes. Complete this challenge before Monday October 10th to be entered.

Thank you for your continued support,

National Healthcare Food Service Workers Week

Help celebrate National Healthcare Food Service Workers Week

In October 1989, President George Bush announced the first annual “National Health Care Food Service Week,” to observe the contributions of professionals in the health care food service industry. The week of observation reaches out to professionals such as cooks, chefs, bakers, dietary aides, dieticians, and food service volunteers who provide delicious and health conscious meals for health care facility patients, guests and staff.

From the preparation to the delivery of foods in hospitals and other healthcare facilities, these professionals often work behind the scenes, but play an integral role in the nourishment of staff and patients. For those that go above and beyond to make sure that everyone’s dietary needs are met, “National Health Care Food Service Week” recognizes the extent of their culinary contributions to patient care at FirstLight Health System.

Please take a moment to thank our talented Dietary Staff at FirstLight for their dedication and commitment to quality care!

National Surgical Technologists Week

According to AST (Association of Surgical Technologists), Surgical Technicians help keep the operating room efficient while ensuring patient safety. In 1984, the Association of Surgical Technologists Board of Directors dedicated the third week in September to recognizing them and their profession.

What does a Surgical Technologist do?

Surgical technologists are health professionals, who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners performing surgery.

Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct and environment during surgical procedures by ensuring: that:

  • the operating room environment is safe,
  • equipment functions properly, and
  • the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.

Thank you Jessica, Tawney, Becky, Jennet, Cora, and Maria for everything you do to keep our patients safe!

thank-you-6
