Congratulations to ED department, Imaging department, Lab department!

Reason for Recognition? My son James and I would like to thank all of you for the wonderful care he received when he presented to the ED with chest pain yesterday. He is currently at Abbott waiting to have an angiogram to check for blockage. He is in good spirits but has a headache from the nitro drip.
Having worked in the ED for many years myself I told him this was a normal side effect of the nitro.
James told me what his symptoms were, and they were certainly all textbook MI symptoms.
He said that the helicopter flight was fast, only took about 25 minutes and that everyone was so professional.
Thanks again for taking such good care of my boy!

World Diabetes Day

November 14, 2023

November 14th is World Diabetes Day, honoring the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, the co-discoverer of insulin in 1922 with Charles Best. The blue circle, adopted in 2007, represents the global symbol for diabetes awareness, uniting us against the diabetes epidemic.

Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. It affects about 37 million Americans, including adults and youth. Diabetes can damage the eyes, kidneys, nerves, and heart, and it is linked to some types of cancer.

The Diabetes Education team at Welia Health is here to help you and your family learn how to manage diabetes, whether type 1 or type 2. Our educators will work with you to establish individual goals so you can feel better and reduce your risks of developing diabetes-related complications.

Additional resources about living with diabetes can be found here:
American Diabetes Association, Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The Updated COVID Vaccines Are Here: Things You Should Know

  1. CDC recommends the updated COVID vaccines for everyone ages 6 months and older to stay up to date. They are highly recommended for Welia Health employees.
  2. According to the FDA, the updated vaccine addresses currently circulating variants to provide better protection against serious consequences of COVID-19.
  3. The updated vaccines are not expected to prevent all cases of COVID, including those causing mild illness; rather, their aim is to reduce severe illness, hospitalization, and death from infection.
  4. Vaccine is highly recommended for anyone at risk of severe disease and death including patients over the age of 50 as well as anyone with immunocompromising conditions and chronic conditions such as heart disease or diabetes.
  5. According to the CDC any serious reactions after COVID-19 vaccination are rare.
